Herbert Alcoy Brown (George William) was born on 28 November 1891 in Coushatta, Red River Parish, Louisiana, died on 4 January 1964 in Texarkana, Miller County, Arkansas, at age 72, and was buried in Bethel Cemetery, Coushatta, Red River Parish, Louisiana.

 

Noted events in his life were:

• He enlisted in the Army as a PFC 211 Co MPC, Louisiana and was in World War I.

• His obituary was published in The Coushatta Paper on 6 January 1964 in Coushatta, Red River Parish, Louisiana.

Funeral services for Herbert A. Brown, 72, of Texarkana, Arkansas, who died at 6:45pm Saturday in a Texarkana hospital following a long illness, will be held at 2pm today at Bethel Baptist Church near Coushatta. The Rev. Larry Joyner will officiate and will be assisted by the Rev. Albert Richardson.

Burial will be in the Bethel Cemetery under the direction of Rose Neath Funeral Home of Coushatta.

Mr. Brown was a native of Red River Parish. He was a retired carpenter.

Survivors include two sons, Claude Brown of Pineville, Louisiana and Harold Brown of Texarkana, Arkansas; two daughters, Mrs. E.W. Lacy of Texarkana, Arkansas and Mrs. E.B. Sistrunk of Cullen, Louisiana; one brother, Clarence Brown of Hall Summit, Louisiana; two sisters, Mrs. Lizzie Snead of Castor, Louisiana and Mrs. Lula Smith of Minden, Louisiana.

 

• His obituary was published in the in the Texarkana Gazette on 7 January 1964 in Texarkana, Bowie County, Texas.

Funeral services for Herbert A. Brown, 72, of 512 Grand, who died Saturday, were held Monday, January 6, at Bethel Baptist Church near Coushatta, Louisiana.

Officiating were Bro. Larry Joyner, Pastor of Bethel Baptist Church and Bro. Albert Richardson of Social Spring Church.

Pallbearers were Lonnie Harley, Frank Smith, William Smith, Merce L. Snead, Alton Snead and Thurman Davis.

He was a Veteran of WWI.

Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Edward Lacy of Texarkana, Arkansas and Mrs. E.B. Sistrunk of Cullen, Louisiana; two sons, Claude E. Brown of Pineville, Louisiana and Harold M. Brown of Texarkana, Arkansas; two sisters, Mrs. G.W. Snead of Castor, Louisiana and Mrs. Dan Smith of Minden, Louisiana; a brother, Clarence Brown of Hall Summit, Louisiana and eleven grandchildren.

 

Herbert married Ethel May Turnbow, daughter of John Jackson Turnbow and Linnie M. (Carolina) Smith, on 27 November 1919 in Coushatta, Red River Parish, Louisiana. Ethel was born on 2 March 1900 in Hall Summit, Red River Parish, Louisiana, died on 23 September 1937 in Shreveport, Caddo Parish, Louisiana, at age 37, and was buried on 24 September 1937 in Bethel Cemetery, Coushatta, Red River Parish, Louisiana. 

 

  M  Claude Elvis Brown was born on 17 December 1920 in Hall Summit, Red River Parish, Louisiana and died on 24 October 1980 in Texarkana, Miller County, Arkansas, at age 59.

 

  F  Erie Mae Brown was born on 23 July 1923 in Coushatta, Red River Parish, Louisiana and died on 8 January 1982 in Texarkana, Miller County, Arkansas, at age 58.

 

  F  Elsie Blanche Brown was born on 19 August 1926 in Coushatta, Red River Parish, Louisiana and died on 20 August 1984 in Shreveport, Caddo Parish, Louisiana, at age 58.

 

  M  Harold Mac Brown was born on 20 December 1930 in Coushatta, Red River Parish, Louisiana and died on 7 July 1979 in Texarkana, Miller County, Arkansas, at age 48.
